Completed our time in New Zealand by driving up to the bay of islands and taking a boat around some of them. Quite pretty, especially the little town of Russell with what must be the prettiest police station in the world. Pictured above (the fantastic tree is a Morton Fig).
Then onto Chile and wow it is great to be back in this wonderful country. A day in Santiago revisiting some of our favourite haunts and dining in the warmth of the evening air and then on to San Pedro de Atacama. Set in the middle of the most arid desert in the world but with flamingoes on the salt lake, geysers and always the snow topped Andes surrounding the village. Quite beautiful and with a very comfortable temperature of about 30C during the day. We headed up to 4300m above sea level to view the geysers at dawn. A wonderful if somewhat cold experience, the boiling steam in the freezing air (-3c) made for a magical atmosphere
We could easily have stayed in San Pedro for a week but to stick to our schedule we are now in Antofagasto planning to take a very early flight to Peru.
