Amazon trip

We are now back in Lima having spent the past week on the Amazon and its tributaries. A wonderful trip that lived up to our expectations. The river boat was quite small and most of our days were spent in smaller boats exploring the backwaters and flooded jungle. We even had a a ride in a dugout canoe with a local fisherman.

Top of our hope to see list was the Pink River Dolphin and that box was ticked big time. Several sightings and some at close quarters. Exotic birds, monkeys and insects also put in appearances but usually not too close. Unfortunately their reluctance to approach us was not shared by the mossies that kept us company whenever we stepped ashore. Despite their presence the jungle trecks were fantastic.

As well as the flaura and fauna we had a great insight into how the river people of the Amazon basin live. We were invited to eat in a local home and visit their school. Colin even scored a goal in a scratch football match against the locals.

From Lima we will head north to Machu Pichu which we both hope will live up to its reputation as a world class attraction.
