Ten days into South Island and its been a great experience. The most impressive feature has been the richness of the wildlife, particularly at the coast. We have walked amongst penguins and fur seals, watched as Albatrosses soared above our heads, had close encounters with arguementative sealions and wondered at dolphins playing in the surf just a few yards from us.
The campervan has proved a great success, providing both transport and accomodation and enabling us to eat our own healthier food rather than the diet of convenience food that becomes the staple of most cafes and restraunts.
The scenery too has been impressive albeit not quite as breathtaking as one may have been lead to expect from the hype of Lord of the Rings. Every map here includes the film locations and its clear it features large in the tourist agenda. I am pretty sure that it has lead to an increase in tourism as we wonder who it was who said the roads would be quiet, they are not.
