Goodbye SA hello WA

We headed back to Cape Town, via the Wine lands, taking a sample or two on the way. Spent our last day at the fantastic botanic gardens. Situated below the table mountain it more than gives Kew a run for its money with the added benefit of colourful wildlife.

Arrived in Perth, Western Australia, or WA as the loacals refer to it in a way that suggests its the centre of the known universe.  where the temparture hits 35c but the most striking difference is the lack of razor wire and electric fences around the houses. Perth is an OK city to live in but has little to offer the traveller. Much preferred Fremantle which retains more character, particularly around the port.

Then down to the South Western  corner, through the wine lands, (spot a trend here?) and on to Albany.
You have to get a long way from Perth before the natural beauty of the country comes through but then there is plenty of space here to get away from anything. The coast is dramatic and the natural reserves wonderful. We did manage to find the spirit of rural Oz in a small town called Williams. A one horse town if ever there was one except someone stole the horse. Had to smile at the advice when walking the coastal dunes, they have many Tiger snakes so wear boots and long trousers. I didn't know one thickness of trouser leg was an effective deterent to one of the worlds most deadly creatures.

Catching the train tomorrow to cross the outback to Adelaide. Two nights on the train so lets hope the beer is cheaper than in the city, (£6 a pint or a glass of wine is the average).
