We said goodbye to Cape Town in style, afternoon tea at the Mount Nelson Hotel , very colonial and very tasteful, and without doubt the best cup of tea I have ever had.
Well as much as Cape Town and it's Cape impressed us the Garden Route failed to live upto its hype. I'm not saying it was unenjoyable, far from it, but it doesn't rate as in international attraction. Bits however, were stand outs. Cape Aghulhas, the place where the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic meet, was fantastic. When we got off the beaten track a bit we saw something of the true Africa. For example the last hand pulled river ferry and Trading Posts straight from the 18th century.
Another highlight has been a game drive. It was a private reserve so in principle a zoo but when its a quarter the size of West Norfolk it feels fairly authentic.
We sit now in Swellendam awaiting a change of hire car as ours has died. Still have plenty of time tomake our connections so just relaxing and enjoying a drink.
